I’ve always loved constructing things and wanted to design bridges or fly helicopters as a young child. So I chose Engineering for a career, but I’d always enjoyed traditional crafts and would make handmade gifts for friends and family. I’m now fortunate to be able to combine the two.
I use many different materials, from digital and original sheet music, vintage books, old maps and emphemera. My materials can often be over a hundred years old. The joy is that each piece is completely unique.
For me it‘s about repurposing materials which would otherwise be landfilled. Often there is a history to each piece and I alway try to show that connection. One of my favourite parts of the process is sourcing the materials, which for me is a treasure hunt.
